Rules & Regulations
- Venues will have a limited number of entries accepted on a first come first serve basis.
- StarCatchers reserves the right to combine or split classes, as well as add or subtract days of a competition. More trophies/awards may be presented due to discretion of StarCatchers
- Cheque or money order for the total competition fees is to be paid in full to StarCatchers for the registration to be accepted for the location specified. (Please deduct discounts/2011 gift certificates).
- All award money is paid to the studio Director (studio name) and may vary due to registration. Five Entries must be present in order to issue cash award.
- Paper Entry forms by StarCatchers are to be photocopied and sent in for each entry with all information provided or save time and enter on-line.
- Ages are determined as of Dec. 31/11 Competitors must be entered into their age category or the next age group up. No competitor may compete against themselves. Solos compete as their age. For duets/trios, groups, lines, ext. line and productions the age will be determined
by adding all the dancers age in the routine, dividing by number of dancers and drop the decimal point. Include any adults participating in the routine.
- Birth Certificates: Only if the age of a competitor is disputed, the teacher is responsible for providing the Festival Committee with the proof of age.
- Appropriateness: Choreography, costuming and music editing must be appropriate for family viewing. StarCatchers will deduct marks for inappropriateness.
- No Communication with the Judges (Oral or Written) by Teachers, Parents, or Dancers during the Competition is Permitted. The Decision of the adjudicators is final.
- Team Routine Finalists includes all class performances within each division excluding solos.
- Should a Novice competitor stop during his/her performance, they may dance again, but will only receive a mark. This rule does not apply if there are technical problems such as a power or equipment failure.
- All dancers must perform 80% of the routine, the exception being the production category.
In the event a dancer is absent, it is the responsibility of the teacher to notify the Festival Committee.
- Each adjudicator will deduct one mark for each additional acro trick after two tricks have been completed.
- Props must be done within the time limit of the routine, excluding extended lines and productions. Props that could pose a danger are strictly prohibited such as knives, swords, fire, glitter, confetti, or liquid substances.
- Stage must be left clean by all performers or their crew. Otherwise, marks will be deducted.
- If a set up takes longer than 5 minute for a production then please advise so scheduling can take place accordingly.
- Dressing rooms are to be shared and maintained in a respectful manner. Persons found vandalizing or abusing the competition venue or StarCatchers rules will be disqualified and charged damaged fees.
- In the Theatre: Competitors are asked to wear a cover-up when entering the theatre auditorium.
- Videotaping, photography, eating or drinking are strictly prohibited within the auditorium and dressing rooms.
- All persons entering StarCatchers Dance Festival, the studio directors, instructors, parents, friends and competitors give their permission to StarCatchers to use their pictures and performance as advertisement material.
Competition Day
The most important thing to StarCatchers is that everyone has a great time! Sportsmanlike conduct back stage is encouraging for all performers – so join in be a part of it. Studios, parents and friends may take photos during adjudications.
Music
Music is to be labeled with your studio name, entry numbers and either in alphabetical order of the name of the routine or in order of performance of the competition program. Submit this1 hour prior to your studios first performance and picked up either at the end of the session or the end of the day.
Time Limits are enforced; please double check time requirements.
To compensate for the varying speeds of machines a 5 sec. leeway is provided, after which 1 mark/5 sec. segment will be deducted from your final score.
Cheque or money order for the total competition fees (less the discount if applicable) is to be paid in full to StarCatchers. Entry fees are non-refundable unless a medical note (or photocopy) is provided and is managed through the studio director only.
